Spoiler

  • Alchemical Hydra is a combat level 426 boss found in Mount Karuulm, requiring level 95 Slayer to kill.
  • "Hydra" may refer to its level 194 slayer monster counterpart (also lvl 95 slayer REQ).
  • In OSRS, the player must receive a "Hydra" task. This is not so on Onyx. You only need 95 slayer!
  • The Hydra fight is divided into four phases.

Spoiler

Hydra Stat Recommendations

  • 95 Slayer
  • 75+ Ranged
  • 70+ HP
  • 70+ Defence
  • 74+ Prayer

Rationale

  • Hydra is best fought with Ranged.
  • A toxic blowpipe is the minimum weapon that I personally would use.
  • There was debate among the Staff about the prayer level recommendation.
  • In my opinion, Eagle Eye is likely good enough, but for a beginner, I see the rationale in Rigour only.

Spoiler

  • Use ::hydra
  • Climb the Rocks
  • Either Enter or Quick-Enter the door

Spoiler

Poison Phase

Spoiler

image.png.d8429aeea27fe84f1e8dd1ad74016a31.png

Poison-Phase: TLDR

  • Run into the room, observe which attack style projectile is hitting you (pray accordingly/adjust).
  • Run directly to the Blue spot (in the picture in Movement section) to lure Hydra over the Red vent.
  • Wait until the Hydra has let out a cry overhead (indicating its defence is lowered).
  • Then dodge the blobs on the floor and DPS the hydra.
  • Get ready to move to the next phase.

Poison-Phase: Movement

Spoiler

  • In this phase, the hydra starts with a green carapace (see pic), and should be lured to the red chemical pool.
  • Therefore, the player should run to the square shown in blue in the picture. This lures hydra onto the red pool.
  • In my opinion, luring is more important than shooting. Hydra gets a HUGE drop in defence upon lured to red pool.
  • Hydra must let out a cry (appears like a message overtop its head) to indicate that the pool has damaged it.

image.png.59d6b999f0bb4728d1104297e6978b07.png

  • Dodge the green blobs (listed below in Special Attacks) by moving a few tiles north.
  • Once the Hydra reaches 75% of its health, the bottom-right head falls off, and it changes its carapace to blue.
  • The player should run north to the green vent.

Poison-Phase: Auto-Attacks

Spoiler

  • This is the standard 3 shots ranged then 3 shots maged cycle.
  • It is random which attack style is started on.
  • So, you could get 3x Mage or 3x Range entering the door.
  • Just keep a mental note and adjust your prayers accordingly.

Poison-Phase: Special Attacks

Spoiler

  • After 3 auto-attacks, The Alchemical Hydra will launch 4 or 5 poison blobs around the player's location.
  • The blobs have a 3x3 splatter effect dealing up to 7 damage.
  • Running onto the poison pools will deal up to 12 poison damage/tick while on top of said pool.
  • Both will cause a poison effect that deals 4 damage.

Lightning Phase

Spoiler

image.png.ec28f5828add369278c40c727a9a3c1e.png

Lightning-Phase: TLDR

  • (The Hydra just lost one of its heads and is now Blue in color.)
  • Immediately run to the Blue tile (in the picture in Movement section) and lure the Hydra on top of the Green pool.
  • Wait until the Hydra has let out a cry overhead (indicating its defence is lowered).
  • When the Hydra shoots its electric attack, dodge the lightning by moving west towards the Blue pool.
  • Just dodge and shoot until the next head falls off and the Hydra is a red color.
  • Hopefully, you are now near the Blue pool.

Lightning-Phase: Movement

Spoiler

  • You start the lightning phase with a hydra head falling off.
  • Similar to the Poison phase, immediately make your way to the Blue tile shown to lure the hydra over the Green pool.
  • In my opinion, luring is more important than shooting. Hydra gets a HUGE drop in defence upon lured to red pool.
  • Hydra must let out a cry (appears like a message overtop its head) to indicate that the pool has damaged it.

image.png.3a5321274dc22566520a668c608fb25f.png

  • Dodge the lightning sprites (listed below in Special Attacks) by running from them.
  • I personally like to hug the wall (see picture) and run towards the blue pool, hitting Hydra at long range.
  • Once the Hydra reaches 50% of its health, the bottom-left head falls off and it changes its carapace to red.
  • Next, the player should run west to the blue vent if not already there from the lightning.

Lightning-Phase: Auto-Attacks

Spoiler

  • Hydra repeats 3x / 3x cycle for auto-attacks.
  • Adjust your prayers accordingly and keep a mental note at all times to mitigate damage.

Lightning-Phase: Special Attacks

Spoiler

  • Hydra will launch an electric ball, which spawns 4 lightning currents.
  • The four pieces of lightning converge on the player. If hit, this binds the player and deal up to 20 damage.
  • Players can hug the northern wall and quickly move their way west while damaging the Hydra.

Flame Phase

Spoiler

image.png.192aa0761c1d56dbf962f24ff05fc8c7.png

Flame-Phase: TLDR

  • (The Hydra just lost one of its heads and is now Red in color.)
  • Immediately run to the Blue tile (in the picture in Movement section) and lure the Hydra on top of the Blue (light blue) pool.
  • Wait until the Hydra has let out a cry overhead (indicating its defence is lowered).
  • Now you have a choice of where you want to run around during its "special attack" (flame walls).
  • Personally, it doesn't matter to me, but some players like running South.
  • The picture is using the Western wall. Turn run off and dodge the homing flame.
  • After 4 seconds, just DPS the Hydra until its head falls off and it turns Grey.
  • REMEMBER what Auto-Attack it was on!!!

Flame-Phase: Movement

Spoiler

  • You start the lightning phase with a hydra head falling off.
  • Immediately make your way to the Blue tile shown to lure the hydra over the Blue (light blue) pool.
  • In my opinion, luring is more important than shooting. Hydra gets a HUGE drop in defence upon lured to red pool.
  • Hydra must let out a cry (appears like a message overtop its head) to indicate that the pool has damaged it.

image.png.5264b98b7a7640ea75c6ff7116518e3d.png

  • Hydra will occasionally walk to the center of the room and face the direction the player is.
  • Now, the Hydra breathes 5x5 layer of fire to the player's sides based on their location.
  • before staring down the middle and launching a tracking fire.
  • This tracking fire follows the player, and travels with them.
  • Turning off run and walking in a line as the fire trails is the best course of action.
  • Getting hit by any of the fires will result in the player taking up to 20 damage.
  • The Hydra does not attack until four seconds after the tracking fire is sent out.
  • Just DPS the Hydra down, assuming you have led it over the Blue pool already.
  • Once the Hydra reaches 25% of its health, the middle head falls off and it changes its carapace to grey.
  • The player doesn't need to move, assuming you're in a comfortable spot to view incoming projectiles.

Flame-Phase: Auto-Attacks

Spoiler

  • Hydra repeats 3x / 3x cycle for auto-attacks.
  • Adjust your prayers accordingly and keep a mental note at all times to mitigate damage.

Flame-Phase: Special Attacks

Spoiler

  • The only special attack is the hydra's flame wall attack with the homing fire, mentioned above.

Enraged Phase

Spoiler

image.png.410e962db4e8e1596c95833c54940527.png

Lightning-Phase: TLDR

  • (The Hydra just lost one of its heads and is now Grey in color.)
  • The Hydra now hits VERY hard with its auto-attacks.
  • So you must be diligent in switching your prayer EACH auto-attack; Otherwise, big damage incoming!
  • It doesn't matter where you stand, as long as you can see everything you need to pray accordingly!
  • After the 3rd auto-attack, the Hydra shoots out the Green Blobs, dodge them by running 3+ squares away.
  • DPS down the Hydra for the kill! Congrats!

Enraged-Phase: Movement

Spoiler

  • The Hydra starts off this phase by attacking with the combat style opposite of what it used in the previous phase.
  • If the previous phase ended with a magic attack, then it starts with ranged and vice versa.
  • It switches combat styles after every attack!

  • After 3 volleys (alternating each time) ... the Hydra uses the Green Blob special from the Poison Phase.

image.png.57b482e5bfa2b895bcf5f9dd434b3085.png

  • You will need to dodge the green blobs that it shoots.
  • Be mindful of what attack it shot before the blob attack, since it will be swapping styles.
  • IE: Ranged attack --> Blob --> Mage Attack

Enraged-Phase: Auto-Attacks

Spoiler

  • It switches combat styles after every attack!
  • The Hydra's enraged form can pump out some heavy damage.
  • The player could be 2 shot by these auto-attacks!

Enraged-Phase: Special Attacks

Spoiler

  • The Green Blob attack (from Phase 1) is used, here, after 3x Auto-Attacks at the start.
